European Heritage Label Imperial Palace Vienna - First Evaluation

After four years, the first monitoring was carried out by the representatives of the cultural heritage label of the EU Commission. An abundance of photos and reports were sent to Brussels. In the monitoring process it is checked to what degree promised measures have been implemented and whether the label shall stay with the site. So, exciting moments for the owner BHOe, currently waiting for feedback from the EU Commission.

One important element of the EHL concept of the Hofburg Vienna is the overall appearance of the huge building complex - with 240,000 m² the largest coherent historical profane site in Europe. So far, only a small number of users have a public appearance - such as the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Museumsquartier or the Sisi Museum.

The almost completed EHL website of the Hofburg Vienna shows for the first time the enormous size of the complex: after all 2,600 rooms, 18 wings and 19 courtyards. There are 16 world-class museums with 69 collections and a total of 12.5 million books and objects.

The Imperial Palace Vienna has played a vital role in many political decisions over the centuries. Because of these events, which also had a major impact on the whole of Europe, the Imperial Palace Vienna was awarded the European Heritage Label. However, a bearer may not rest on this award. That is why further steps are certainly planned for the EHL site Imperial Palace Vienna.

More about EHL and the new Imperial Palace Vienna website can be found in a special NewsTicker soon.
